The Architect’s Newspaper is the go-to news source for the architecture and design industry. For years, AN has acknowledged the work of industry leaders through its annual Best of Design and Best of Products Awards, but the firms themselves never got the star treatment…until now.

With the Best of Practice Award, AN tips its hat to North American firms excelling at every level of the AEC industry. And we mean every level—from architecture and landscape to interiors and lighting, from construction and fabrication to wayfinding and photography. Honoring firms of all sizes and regions, the award will offer a snapshot of what practice looks like today.

The first-ever iteration of the awards kicks off January 15, 2020, with the submission period running through April 1, 2021. Entrants can enter their firm’s projects and work across 80 categories and four regions. A jury of industry experts as well as AN editors will evaluate the firms according to relevant criteria. The aim will be to stake out an expansive meaning of excellence, one which takes into account inclusivity, social impact, sustainability, regionality, and technological innovation, in addition to formal and structural considerations. The top prizes will be announced in June, and winners will receive a specially designed award, more details to be announced soon.

Winning practices will be featured in the Best of Design print magazine as well as across social media channels and online at ArchPaper.com—shining a spotlight on each firm to our global audience of over a million members of the A/E/C design community.
